Israel’s parliament (known as the Knesset) was disbanded after the majority of the members  have passed a bill in the first reading to go to a new election.

Ninety –four members voted in favor of    dissolving the Israeli legislative body.

Nobody voted against that decision.

The upcoming election which is expected to run earlier in March will be the third one in less than 12 months.

Neither Benjamin Netanyahu, Israel’s Prime Minister  nor  Beni Gantz, chief of Blue & White party and leader of t he opposition, was able to form a new government in Israel.

The Joint Arab List includes the Arab members in the Knesset is the third bloc in the Knesset following both the Likud and Blue & White.

The new election in Israel put the leading political parties in Israel at stake especially the Likud, a right party led by   Netanyahu  and Blue & White, a center-leftist led by IDF former Chief in Staff Beni Gantz along with Yisrael Beiteinu chaired by ex-Defense Minister  Avigdor Lieberman.

Israel’s President R. Riviln granted the Knesset three weeks to task a member of it to from the new government as either Netanyahu or Gantz failed to do that.

Polls that have been recently conducted revealed that after the upcoming election, the political map in Israel won’t change  al lot.

The dilemma of forming a new government will still in place for an extended period.

The Knesset   is the unicameral national legislature of Israel. As the legislative branch of the Israeli government, the Knesset passes all laws, elects the President and Prime Minister (although the latter is ceremonially appointed by the President), approves the cabinet, and supervises the work of the government.

In addition, the Knesset elects the State Comptroller. It also has the power to waive the immunity of its members, remove the President and the State Comptroller from office, dissolve the government in a constructive vote of no confidence, and to dissolve itself and call new elections.

The Prime Minister may also dissolve the Knesset. However, until an election is completed, the Knesset maintains authority in its current composition.

The Knesset is located in Givat Ram, Western Jerusalem. It was temporarily dissolved on 30 May 2019.

The Knesset returned on 3 October 2019 following the swearing in of new members[5], though it was dissolved on 12 December 2019.
