Japanese Prime Minister (PM) Fumio Kishida vowed on Monday that his country would play a leading diplomatic role in resolving global hot issues in 2024, which will witness many important events, including the US presidential election.
Kishida's remarks are a sign of his commitment to Japan's active role in the world.
They also come as Japan faces a number of challenges, including the ongoing war in Ukraine, the rise of China, and the threat of North Korea.
In his New Year's address, Japanese PM Fumio said that he will exercise a unique leadership for Japan through a leading diplomacy to overcome global challenges such as the Russia-Ukraine war and Israel-Hamas conflict.
Kishida, who served as foreign minister and defense minister before becoming prime minister in October 2021, said, "We will firmly protect the safety of the Japanese people, territory, waters, and airspace in the complex security environment in East Asia."
