Atlantic remote island of Kiribati imposed the nation's first-ever COVID-19 lockdown after reporting a positive Coronavirus case, BBC reported on Saturday.
The case is for a passenger on the first international flight to the island in ten months.
Later, it reported 36 positive cases on the same flight although they were all fully vaccinated, alongside four domestic infections.
Lockdown was not the only imposed measure against COVID-19 on the island, but also a ban on all social gatherings and meetings, and people would have to stay inside their homes.
They are not allowed to leave their home unless for urgent matters, and they can buy their needs only between 6 a.m. and 2 p.m.
Kiribati recorded only two COVID cases until last week.
In the same context, the office of Kiribati President Taneti Maamau said: "The only way that we can fight this virus is through complete vaccination," adding, "The public is urged to complete their vaccination doses in order to protect themselves and their families."
