The Embassy of the Arab Republic of Egypt in Brussels, in cooperation with the organizing companies of the highly anticipated event, hosted a grand reception to mark the official opening of "Tutankhamun – The Immersive Experience." Held at the prestigious Brussels Expo, the launch event drew an elite crowd of international dignitaries and public figures.

Attendees included high-ranking officials from the Belgian government, representatives from European Union institutions, North Atlantic Treaty Organization delegates, members of the European Parliament, the Mayor of Brussels, heads of foreign diplomatic missions, and leading members of the Belgian business community.

Reimagining Ancient Egyptian Civilization

In his opening remarks, Ambassador Ahmed Abu Zeid, Egypt’s Ambassador to the European Union and Belgium, and Head of its Mission to NATO, highlighted the timeless vitality and enduring appeal of Ancient Egyptian history. He emphasized that experiencing this rich heritage is no longer confined to traditional museums and academic textbooks.

Instead, modern technology has transformed history into an engaging, multi-sensory educational experience, making it highly accessible to contemporary audiences and younger generations.

A Historic Bond Renewed

Ambassador Abu Zeid praised how virtual reality and metaverse technologies allow modern audiences to step directly into history, experiencing ancient stories with unparalleled realism, depth, and emotion.

He also highlighted the unique historic connection between Belgium and the boy king. Queen Elisabeth of Belgium was among the very first royals to visit the tomb of King Tutankhamun following its historic discovery by Howard Carter in 1922. Her visit captured global headlines and catalyzed a dedicated era of academic Egyptology within the Kingdom of Belgium.

From Cairo to the Heart of Europe

Before arriving in Europe, "Tutankhamun – The Immersive Experience" enjoyed a successful run at the Grand Egyptian Museum in Cairo. Ambassador Abu Zeid utilized the Brussels opening to spotlight the cultural and educational role played by the landmark institution, extending a warm invitation to all attendees to visit Egypt and witness ancient history in its true cradle.

Having already attracted over 2.5 million visitors across multiple countries during its international tour, the immersive exhibition will remain open to the public at the Brussels Expo until the end of 2026.
