Jordanian King Abdullah II said on Thursday that Jerusalem is the symbol of peace, according to Petra News agency.

In his speech during the inauguration of the 19th Parliament’s non-ordinary session, King Abdullah II said, “We will not accept any attempts to alter its historical and legal status quo, nor attempts of the temporal or spatial pision of Al Aqsa Mosque."

Moreover, Jordan King stressed that depriving the Palestinian people of their just and legitimate rights is the reason why our region has become hostage to the conflict and instability.

“Achieving just and comprehensive peace on the basis of the two-state solution is our strategic choice,” he said, stressing that “We have never and will never hesitate to defend Jerusalem, its sanctities, identity, and history.”

On the other hand, he asserted that difficulties due to the Coronavirus pandemic did not stop them from continuing the democratic process.

“Difficult circumstances have never prevented us from continuing the democratic process and adhering to constitutional entitlements,” he added in his speech. “We succeeded, with the grace of God and his success, in holding parliamentary elections despite the Corona pandemic.”

The king stated that priority in dealing with the virus is the citizen's health and safety, as well as continuing to protect the national economy, stressing that this calls for action plans and programs, deliberating applicable decisions, and an effective partnership with the private sector.

“Citizen’s confidence in the state administration is of utmost importance, which calls for more work and improvement of services, especially in the health, education, transportation sectors, and for transparency,” the king continued. “It also needs transparency, openness, and achievement to be the government's approach.”
