The British newspaper The Guardian reported that King Charles III and Crown Prince William are planning separate visits to the United States next year as part of efforts to revive a suspended trade agreement with Washington.
According to the report, advanced discussions are underway for King Charles to visit the US in April, while Prince William is expected to make a separate visit later in the year.
William’s visit may coincide with the United States hosting the 2026 FIFA World Cup, alongside Canada and Mexico.
If the visit takes place, it would be the first visit by a reigning British monarch to the United States since Queen Elizabeth II’s visit in 2007, when she was invited by former US President George W. Bush.
The United States recently suspended a multi-billion-pound investment in the UK technology sector due to ongoing trade disputes.
The move halted a wider £31 billion agreement, which UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer had previously described as a “step change in relations” between the two countries.
Under the agreement, major US tech companies had pledged large investments in Britain, including £22 billion from Microsoft and £5 billion from Google.
However, Washington paused the deal, citing insufficient progress by the UK in reducing trade barriers in other sectors.
The decision was seen as a setback for the British government, which had promoted the agreement as the result of a year of intensive diplomatic engagement aimed at avoiding punitive US tariffs on British exports.
