Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, King Abdullah II of Jordan, and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas held a tripartite summit in Cairo on Thursday.
During the summit, the Jordanian king stressed keenness to provide all means of support to the Palestinian people and to continue efforts to activate the peace process.
King Abdullah II affirmed that the region cannot enjoy security and stability without a just and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian issue on the basis of the two-state solution, which guarantees the establishment of an independent Palestinian state based on the June 4, 1967 lines, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
Moreover, the Jordanian King hailed Egypt's continuous efforts to consolidate stability and peace in the region.
He underlined the importance of stopping all unilateral measures, especially in Jerusalem and Al-Aqsa Mosque, and the need to work with all parties to avoid any escalation that would negatively affect efforts to achieve peace.
In addition, King Abdullah II reiterated Jordan's continuous efforts to preserve the legal and historical status of Jerusalem and to protect Islamic and Coptic holy sites under Hashemite guardianship.
He also stressed the Palestinian issue is still a central issue, despite the multiple challenges witnessed by the region nowadays.
"We will continue to coordinate closely with our brothers in Egypt and Palestine for the sake of our peoples and the causes of our nation," Abdullah II said.
