The past few days have witnessed an increase in the volume and sales of children's clothing by 70-75%, as Eid Al-Fitr begins to approach with the desire of families to bring joy to children in light of the current coronavirus crises, according to Amr Hassan, Head of the clothes pision at the Egyptian Chamber of Commerce.

Hassan said that despite the partial boom in the kids wear demand, there is a severe recession that strikes the sector's sales in the rest of the clothing products, as the volume of sales does not exceed 30% in light of the precautionary measures applied by the state to confront the virus, including the closure of stores at 5:00 pm.

Hassan affirmed that the clothing sector is one of the most affected by the current conditions in light of its compatibility with the summer season, which is the peak of the sector's sales and Eid Al-Fitr, noting that the factories incurred heavy losses as a result of their continued production and the payment of wages with the decrease in demand for clothes.

Lack of Demand ahead of Eid

He explained that the decline in demand, whether in the local or export market, caused the accumulation of inventory in factories, leading to the lack of liquidity that contributes to the continuation of production.

He pointed out that, despite the losses the sector is receiving as a result of the short opening period of the shops, he sees the need to implement the total ban for two weeks in light of the large numbers of people infected with the virus significantly to preserve lives and contain the virus.

Egypt registered on Sunday 436 new coronavirus cases, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 9,400.

Meantime, Iraq authorities decided on Sunday to impose a full curfew across the country in Eid al-Fitr to curb the spread of the coronavirus, while others in the Muslim world are awaiting the same decision.
