The National Council for Human Rights announces that Ambassador Moushira Khattab has submitted her resignation from the position of President of the Council, effective Saturday, May 31, 2025, due to her desire to seek a position within an international organization.

In her resignation letter, Ambassador Khattab expressed her sincere gratitude and deep appreciation to the political leadership for approving the nomination put forward by the House of Representatives in 2021, which led to her appointment as President of the Council.

She also affirmed her full confidence in the current composition of the Council, which, she stated, comprises a distinguished group of experts and professionals in the field of human rights—fully capable of continuing the Council's institutional mission and ensuring its effectiveness and sustainability.

Following the submission of her resignation, the necessary legal procedures will be undertaken in accordance with the Council’s governing law. Ambassador Mahmoud Karem, Vice President of the Council, will assume the duties of Acting President in accordance with the law, and will lead the Council through the remainder of its current term.
