Head of the Egyptian Community in Kharkiv Karim Zawawy called on the Egyptian expatriates to abide by the instructions of the Egyptian Embassy in Kiev and the Ukrainian government and not to submit to any other instruction from unofficial groups, saying: "Your identity papers must be with you wherever you go. They are now more important than food and water."
Zawawy said on Sunday morning that the security situation in the city of Kharkov is not stable, calling on the Egyptians to stay in their homes and shelters.
The head of the Egyptian Community stressed that there are no injuries among members of the Egyptian community in Ukraine, except for one student, who was shot in the arm in his balcony after trying to take a video of the conflict, adding that he was taken to the hospital and the embassy follows closely his health condition.
He explained that the embassy evacuated hundreds of Egyptian students from their residence in Ukraine to safe place, and to nearby countries like Romania, and Poland, however, most of the expatriates are still locked in the country, as there is a difficulty in transferring them, especially with millions of Ukrainians trying to flee the country.
