Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said, on Friday, that the European countries, including the United Kingdom, cannot be trusted, but Tehran is not against negotiating with anyone except the United States.

During making his first sermon in eight years in Tehran, Khamenei called U.S. president Donald Trump as a "clown" who only pretends to support the Iranian people but in fact he "pushes a poisonous dagger" into their backs.

Khamenei also praised the missile attacks against American targets in response to the assassination of the Iranian Supreme Commander, Qassem Soleimani, the commander of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Quds Force, as a "slap on the face" to Washington.

Earlier this month, the United States carried out strikes on military vehicles inside Baghdad International Airport, in which Soleimani was killed.

Meanwhile, Khamenei stressed that that “harsh retaliation is waiting” for the US, adding that Soleimani’s killing will double the motivation of the resistance against the United States and Israel.

On the other hand, the Pentagon confirmed: “the strike that killed Soleimani aimed at deterring future Iranian attacking plans.”

The Pentagon added that US President Donald Trump ordered the killing of Soleimani to protect US personnel abroad.

The Pentagon stated that Soleimani and the elite Quds Force are responsible for the deaths of hundreds of Americans and coalition forces in Iraq and Syria.
