Burj Khalifa in Emirates lighted up on Monday with a portrait of Yuri Gagarin, the first human in space, celebrating 60th anniversary of his space flight.
"Yuri Gagarin’s flight marked a new era in space conquest. There is not a country in the world where the name of our celebrated cosmonaut would not be known," Russia’s Consul General in Dubai Oleg Fomin told TASS.
Fomin expressed his extreme happiness that "the UAE Space Agency supported the initiative of the Russian side to shine light on the 60th anniversary of the first human space flight in such a beautiful and original way."
April 12 marks the "International Day of Human Space Flight" when people celebrate this year, 2021, 60 years since Gagarin’s historic spaceflight.
He was the first man in space circled the Earth once in his Vostok 1 spacecraft and returned safely, landing in the southeastern part of European Russia.
Burj Khalifa does not usually display images of people. Nonetheless, shortly after Diego Maradona's death, the portrait of the Argentinian football superstar decorated the landmark's facade.
This move was largely because he worked as a coach in the UAE in 2011-2012 and 2017-2018.
Moreover, Burj Khalifa lighted up in Egyptian flag colors last December, celebrating Long Live Egypt Fund, as the fund won three titles in Guinness World Record.
The tower,828 meters tall, was opened in 2010. It has been the tallest building with the most floors in the world, as it has 163 floors.
