Kenya's Interior Ministry announced on Sunday that the number of fatalities resulting from floods and other repercussions of heavy rains sweeping across the country has risen to 228 people.

The heavy rains, which have caused widespread floods and landslides in various parts of Kenya over the past few weeks in May, are expected to continue.

The ministry stated in a release that further floods are anticipated "in low-lying areas and along river banks and urban areas, with possible mudslides occurring in steep slopes, cliffs, and valleys."

The floods have destroyed homes, roads, bridges, and other infrastructure in East Africa's largest economy.

The Ministry of Interior reported that at least 164 people have been injured due to the adverse weather conditions, while 212,630 individuals have been displaced.
