The White House announced on Wednesday that US Vice President Kamala Harris will attend the United Nations Climate Conference (COP28) in Dubai this week.
This decision follows criticisms of President Joe Biden for not attending the event.
In a statement, the presidency said US President Joe Biden has asked Vice President Harris to attend the COP28 leaders' summit on his behalf to demonstrate US global leadership on climate both domestically and internationally.
In related news, the White House stated that President Biden had a phone call on Wednesday with Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed, the President of the United Arab Emirates.
They discussed the ongoing conflict in the Middle East and the upcoming climate summit.
The White House noted that both leaders welcomed the recent hostage agreement and the humanitarian truce in the Gaza war.
