The EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, affirmed on Monday that the European Union aspires to be an integral part of the peace process in Gaza and to contribute using its available instruments.
These remarks were made in press statements upon her arrival at the EU Foreign Affairs Council meeting in Brussels. Kallas addressed key agenda items, notably information manipulation, the war in Ukraine, and recent developments in the Middle East.
Kallas highlighted the presence of the EU Border Assistance Mission (EUBAM) at the Rafah crossing on the Palestinian side, as well as the EU Police Mission for the Palestinian Territories (EUPOL COPPS).
She stated that the issue of disarming Hamas should be undertaken by the Palestinian Police, a process in which the EU Police Mission could play a significant supportive role.
