Tunisian President Kais Saied said that his country rejects any dictates from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and noted they provided "ready-made recipes" for treatment without knowing the causes of the disease.
This came during his talks with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, in which he touched on Tunisia's negotiations with the International Monetary Fund, according to the Tunisian "Shams FM" website, on Tuesday.
"The IMF's prescriptions have completely opposite effects," Saied said.
He continued: "Its effects will lead to the detonation of the situation in a way that affects the social peace in Tunisia," adding: "But the matter will not stop at our borders, but its effects will extend to the entire region."
The Tunisian president spoke about Tunisia's debts, stressing that it burdens the state and that it can be converted into development projects.
Saied and Meloni's talks also dealt with the issue of illegal immigration and its related repercussions.
The Tunisian president had warned, earlier, of a repeat of the bloody events that the country witnessed in 1984, when subsidies on grain and its derivatives were lifted.
