A Brazilian Supreme Court judge on Friday ordered Elon Musk's social media giant X to be suspended in Brazil after the U.S. billionaire refused to name a legal representative in the country, according to The Associated Press.
The judge gave internet service providers and app stores five days to block access to X, and said the platform would remain blocked until it complied with his orders.
He also said that companies using virtual private networks (VPNs) to access App X would be subject to daily fines of $8,900.
X said it expects Brazil's Supreme Court to order a ban on the platform as Musk insists the platform is being punished for refusing to censor.
“Elon Musk has shown his complete disrespect for Brazilian sovereignty by making himself immune to the laws of every country,” the judge wrote.
Musk has refused to reopen an office in the country in response to government requests to shut down accounts spreading fake news.
