Journalists criticized U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken during a press conference on Thursday, repeatedly interrupting him as he defended his handling of the Gaza conflict. The event, held at the State Department, turned tense as reporters voiced their frustrations over Washington’s response to the ongoing crisis.
Independent journalist Sam Husseini, known for his vocal opposition to U.S. foreign policy, interrupted Blinken’s opening remarks by shouting, “Criminal! Your place is in The Hague,” referencing the International Criminal Court in the Netherlands. Security personnel escorted Husseini out of the room as he continued his protest against Blinken.
Another heated moment came when Max Blumenthal, editor of the Grayzone, a publication critical of U.S. foreign policy, asked, “Why did you continue bombing when we reached an agreement in May?” Security also removed Blumenthal after his pointed question.
When asked if he would reconsider his approach toward Israel, Blinken pointed to the strong domestic support within Israel for its policies following the October 7 attacks, stating, “The Israeli government’s actions have been supported by the overwhelming majority of Israelis after the trauma of October 7.”
Blinken has faced increasing public backlash in Washington since the Gaza conflict began. Protesters have camped outside his Virginia home for months, even splashing red paint on vehicles transporting him and his family as a symbol of bloodshed.
