Journalist and Broadcaster Walid Farouk Obtains PhD in Applied Arts

Journalist and media professional Walid Farouk has obtained a Doctorate in Applied Arts from Helwan University, for his dissertation titled “Activating 3D Printing in the Design and Formation of Glass Jewelry.”

The examination committee included: Dr. Walid Ensy El-Hamamy, Assistant Professor at the Department of Glass, Faculty of Applied Arts, Helwan University (Supervisor); Dr. Hagar Said Hefnawy, Professor of Glass Design at the Faculty of Applied Arts, Helwan University (Supervisor); Dr. Nevine Saad El-Din Salem, Professor of Glass Production Methods and Techniques at the Faculty of Applied Arts, Helwan University (Discussant and Rapporteur); and Designer Maha Al-Sibai, Head of Dubai Designers Group for Gold and Jewelry (External Discussant).

Farouk explained that the dissertation focused on employing modern 3D printing technologies in the design and formation of glass jewelry, in order to produce designs and forms that are difficult to achieve through traditional methods.

He added that the study represents a qualitative leap in the design and production of glass jewelry, especially with the global trend toward adopting 3D printing as a cornerstone of the future of art and industry.

Farouk has long experience in specialized journalism in the gold and jewelry sector, as he serves as Editor-in-Chief of the “Ayar 24” website, and has presented the “Ayar 24” program on Sada El-Balad TV channel, in addition to the “El-Sagha” podcast.

He has also published several important books addressing the history of gold craftsmanship in Egypt, including “Goldsmiths of Egypt: Origins and Historical Development,” “Golden Bracelets: Stories and Secrets of Egypt’s Gold Market,” and “Jewelry and the Female Body.”
