Jordan's King Abdullah II, during a phone call with US President Joe Biden on Monday, emphasized the necessity of reducing the current escalation in the region and achieving comprehensive calm to prevent it from slipping into a regional war.
According to a statement released on Monday, King Abdullah stressed that achieving an immediate and lasting ceasefire and ending the catastrophe in Gaza are urgent steps that must be taken to protect regional security and prevent further war and conflict.
During the call, the King highlighted the need to halt all escalatory measures and respect and enforce international law uniformly.
He warned of the dangers posed by the hostile actions of extremist settlers against Palestinians and unilateral measures that undermine the chances of achieving just peace and target the historical and legal status quo of Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem, which could ignite violence in the region.
The King also emphasized the importance of the United States' role in stopping the war on Gaza and pushing for an immediate and lasting ceasefire, as well as creating a real political horizon to achieve just and comprehensive peace based on the two-state solution.
President Biden expressed his gratitude to King Abdullah for his efforts to achieve peace and stability in the region, reaffirming the United States' steadfast support for Jordan.
The call also addressed ways to strengthen the strategic partnership between the two countries and expand cooperation in various fields.
