Jordanian markets began receiving Egyptian meat supplies after the arrival of the first shipment of chilled lamb and beef from Egypt, which will be distributed through the country’s military consumer outlets.

The move follows a recent decision by the Jordanian government to open imports of refrigerated meat from Egypt as part of efforts to increase supply and stabilize domestic prices.

According to Jordan’s Ministry of Agriculture, the policy is part of a broader strategy to strengthen food supply chains by integrating local production with carefully managed imports. The ministry emphasized that the approach aims to reduce risks associated with overreliance on external markets while ensuring consistent availability of essential food products.

The government has diversified its import sources across 21 countries, covering fresh, chilled, and frozen meat categories. Officials say this diversification enhances market resilience and helps maintain price stability amid global food supply fluctuations.

The arrival of Egyptian shipments marks a new phase in agricultural and trade cooperation between the two countries, reflecting growing regional integration in food security strategies and cross-border supply chains.
