On Wednesday, Jordan's King Abdullah II expressed appreciation for the EU’s support to Jordan, stressing the importance of equitable COVID-19 vaccine distribution among peoples to safeguard the health and wellbeing of all.
The king held two separate meetings with European Council President Charles Michel and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, in Brussels, according to Petra news agency.
In the two meetings, they covered means to bolster the strategic partnership between Jordan and the European Union, as well as efforts to fight the deadly virus.
On his part, Michel hailed Jordan’s efforts in facing Coronavirus panademic, as well as ensuring that refugees in the Kingdom are included in the vaccine drive, adding that the EU is ready to enhance its cooperation with the country on countering the pandemic.
Moreover, Von der Leyen affirmed that the king remains one of the EU’s most important partners, commending his diplomatic efforts in enhancing dialogue and understanding among peoples.
She added that Jordan is an anchor of stability in the region, saying "you can count on us always."
The two meetings also tackled regional developments, especially the Palestinian cause and latest developments in Jerusalem.
In the same page, King Abdullah stressed the importance of resolving the Palestinian-Israeli conflict on the basis of the two-state solution, leading to establishing an independent Palestinian state on the 4 June 1967 lines, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
The leaders also addressed regional and international efforts to counter terrorism and extremism within a holistic approach, and cooperation between Jordan and the EU in this regard.
