The Petra Development and Tourism Region Authority (PDTRA) evacuated visitors from Jordan’s Petra as heavy downpours flooded the archaeological site.

Water from surrounding mountains poured down into the rose-red city, causing heavy rains in the south of the Kingdom.

Moreover, downpours from rainwater blocked the road between the Dead Sea and Aqaba governorate.

An official source revealed that three people were injured after a coaster bus tipped over due to torrential rain in the Maan governorate.

In addition, the emergency operations centre pointed out that the bus was washed up by torrential rain on the road to Al Hussein Bin Talal University.

Earlier on the day, the Director of the Jordan Meteorological Department Raed Khattab mentioned that the southern governorates could expect the most precipitation.

The Public Security Directorate (PSD) affirmed that the competent authorities were dealing with landslides and rock collapses around the Dead Sea Panorama road due to heavy rains.
