The newly-elected Prime Minister Boris Johnson will change the British stance towards the Muslim Brotherhood and will push the Commons to review the group’s activities in the United Kingdom, according to political expert Tarek Fahmy.

“Johnson will reopen the Brotherhood group’s file at the Commons following finding out new pieces of evidence proving the group’s acts has harmed the British national security,” Fahmy told SEE.

He also stressed that “Johnson is similar to the US President Donald Trump, but with no authoritarian powers.”

The political professor added that the Muslim origins of Johnson will play no role in the political life, noting that “cheering for alleged bonds between the new premier and Arab and Egyptian territory is nonsense.”

In fact, Johnson’s background will not affect his decisive position towards the Muslim Brotherhood, labeled terrorist in many Muslim counties like Egypt, Saudi Arabia and the UAE, according to Fahmy’s statements to SEE.

“It’s expected that the Conservative prime minister will involve into a conflict with the Brotherhood as his platform looks different from his predecessor Theresa May,” he added.

Fahmy believed that the UK’s premier will follow legal procedures and won’t breach legislations in dealing with the Muslim Brotherhood file.

On their part, the group’s members living in the UK have begun a defensive plan to secure their situation. They have intensified their contacts with some Commons’ members, according to Fahmy who said that the group previously succeeded in thwarting many attempts inside the Commons about the Brotherhood.

“Ibrahim Monir and other powerful leaders of the Brotherhood have been leading likely moves against the organization inside the House of Commons, but Johnson believes in the Brotherhood group poses threats.”

Political analysts believed that electing Johnson as the UK’s premier is a new victory of “populism” in the world which will witness new threats amidst absence of democracy and liberal values.

Appointing conservative premier in such a significant post in Britain is reminding us of the world’s status before the two world wars where nationalism streams increased all over Europe.
