British Prime Minister Boris Johnson offered to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy the formation of a new international alliance against Russia, according to Corriere Della Sera.
Johnson recommend forming a “new political, economic, and military alliance” to replace the EU, which would bring together nations displeased with Brussels’ stance and Germany’s moves against Moscow.
“The Prime Minister first presented the initiative to Volodymyr Zelenskyy when the Ukrainian president received him in Kyiv on April 9. The Boris Johnson model involves the creation of a European community led by the United Kingdom,” the report said.
"In addition to Ukraine, Poland, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania, it could also include Turkey later… Johnson proposes an alliance of states that zealously defend national sovereignty, stand for a free economy, and are ready to take the toughest possible stance against the Russian military threat"
In previous remarks, the British Prime Minister stated that he did not see the potential of normalizing relations with President Vladimir Putin following the invasion of Ukraine.
During an interview on LBC Radio, Johnson was asked whether Putin could be welcomed back on the global stage if he were to repent, to which he replied: “Repentance is going to be very difficult for Vladimir Putin now … nothing is impossible, I suppose, but I just cannot see for the life of me how we can renormalize relations with Putin now.”
