UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson confirmed on Thursday that Oxford-AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine is safe. His comments came after EU issued report about blood clots in vaccinated EU people.
European Medicines Agency reported 22 cases of blood clotting who received COVID-19 including one death.
Therefore, a number of EU countries suspended the use of AstraZeneca vaccine amid fears of causing blood clots such as Denmark, Norway, Italy, and Iceland.
On the other hand, Britain is continuing depending on AstraZeneca in its vaccination campaign.
Johnson's spokesman said: “We've been clear that it's both safe and effective, and when people are asked to come forward and take it, they should do so in confidence.”
He added: “And in fact you're starting to see the results of the vaccine programme in terms of the (lower) number of cases we're seeing across the country, the number of deaths, number of hospitalisations.”
This dispute is not the first caused by the vaccine as France suspected the effectiveness of AstraZeneca vaccine for people who aged over 65 years old early this year.
Also, EU and the leading medical firm have been clashed over delays of the vaccine doses shipments.
