Sources in the Israeli right confirmed that the Jewish lobby in the United States managed to recruit 33 members of Congressmen, from both the Democratic and Republican parties, for a campaign aimed at dismantling the investigation committee set up by the United Nations Human Rights Council.
This commission was created in the wake of the Israeli military operation “ Protector of the Fences” against the Gaza Strip, last year, and aims to try its generals on charges of committing war crimes.
The Jewish news site "Insider" said that the pro-Israel lobby AIPAC initiated this campaign last March, and developed a petition in cooperation with Republican Congressman Greg Stobe of Florida and Democrat Vincent Gonzalez of Texas.
They were joined by 31 other members, including seven representatives of the Democratic Party, all calling for their country to stop funding the United Nations or its Human Rights Council, if the investigation against Israel continues.
