US Vice President J.D. Vance considered Greenland "less secure" than it was a few decades ago, saying that the Arctic island would be better off under US security than under Danish leadership.

Vance told reporters from the US military base in Petofik, Greenland, according to Alhurra TV on Friday evening, "We disagree with the Danish leadership, which is not investing enough in Greenland or in its security infrastructure. That simply has to change. It's US policy that will change that."

He continued, "I think you'd be much better off under the US security umbrella than you were under the Danish security umbrella."

US President Donald Trump has said that the United States needs Greenland "for the sake of international security," adding, "There are Chinese and Russian ships in the region that Washington cannot leave to Denmark or anyone else to deal with."
