American actor-singer Jared Leto has been unaware of the coronavirus pandemic and learned all about it yesterday, Tuesday, after emerging from a 12-day meditation retreat in the desert.

“Wow. 12 days ago I began a silent meditation in the desert. We were totally isolated. No phone, no communication etc. We had no idea what was happening outside the facility.”  he wrote on Instagram.

He continued: “walked out yesterday into a very different world. One that’s been changed forever. Mind blowing – to say the least.”

“I’m getting messages from friends and family all around the globe and catching up on what’s going on. Hope you and yours are ok. Sending positive energy to all. Stay inside. Stay safe.” he concluded.

Leto was not the only unware of the virus, as the contestants of the 13th season of the reality TV show "Big Brother",  a group of 14 men and women living in isolation in a house in Cologne, western Germany, also learned that evening about it.

The majority of them have been in isolation since  February 6, at that time news of the novel coronavirus was only just trickling out of Wuhan in China.

Since then, they have been cut off from the outside world, except for the one time when the show introduced four new members on 6 March, three days before Germany reported its first death from the virus.

Germany now has more than 6,000 cases and 13 deaths.

It is worth mentioning that, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared coronavirus a global pandemic on March 11 as the new virus has rapidly spread to more than 121,000 people from Asia to the Middle East, Europe, and the United States.

More cases of the virus, which causes respiratory disease Covid-19, continue to emerge, with outbreaks in South Korea, Italy, and Iran.

Italy recorded 368 more deaths from the coronavirus outbreak on Sunday, its biggest one day rise, amid growing concern about the ability of its strained health system to cope with the relentless increase in new cases.

Transmission of viruses between humans happens when someone comes into contact with an infected person’s secretions, such as droplets in a cough. They can also be transmitted by coming into contact with something an infected person has touched and then touching your mouth, nose or eyes.

It is known that older people appear to be more vulnerable to the effects of the emerging virus.
