Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida is set to embark on a week-long tour next week, with scheduled stops in Indonesia for the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) summit and in India for the G20 meeting of major economies.
According to Japan's Kyodo News Agency, Kishida's trip will commence on Tuesday and he is expected to engage in bilateral talks with other national leaders, including those of Indonesia and India, on the sidelines of these high-profile meetings. Hirokazu Matsuno, Chief Cabinet Secretary, made the announcement at a press conference.
Observers are keenly watching whether Kishida will have any high-level meetings with Chinese officials during the tour. Japan-China relations have recently faced increased tensions after Japan began releasing treated radioactive water from the disabled Fukushima nuclear power plant into the sea.
