Tokyo announced that Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida will arrive today, Tuesday, in Kiev on a surprise visit, and he will meet, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
The Japanese Foreign Ministry said that Kishida "will convey to President Zelensky his respect for the courage and perseverance of the Ukrainian people who are defending their homeland under their leadership, and will also express solidarity and continued support for Ukraine on the part of Japan and the Group of Seven" whose meetings Japan is hosting this year.
Kishida is the only one among the other G7 leaders who has not visited Ukraine since the Russian invasion of that country began in February 2022. The Japanese prime minister has been constantly invited to visit Ukraine.
