On Wednesday, the Embassy of Japan in Egypt hosted a stakeholder workshop regarding Japan’s Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (KUSANONE).
ThisJapanese grant scheme provides direct and small-scale financial support to non-profit organizations including non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in the local communities. Japan has extended approximately US$10 million in Egypt since 1994, supporting 176 projects throughout Egypt in a wide range of sectors including education, health, water and sanitation, vocational training, women empowerment and special need support.
The event was attended by Ms. Mona Amin, Consultant to Minister for International Relations, Ministry of Social Solidarity,Dr. Ahmed Seada, CEO of the NGO projects support Fund agency affiliated to the MOSS,and over20NGOs.
During the event, H.E. Mr. OKA Hiroshi, Ambassador of Japan to Egypt,expressed his keenness to enhance contribution to local communities more effectively in partnership with the Egyptian civil society, highlighting the essential role played by the civil society in local development in Egypt.
Four NGOs, Alexandria Business Association, Gozour Foundation for Development, Misr El Kheir Foundation and Takatof Association for Development, which have experiences of partnership through the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects in the past,shared their outcomes and experiences they have gained through the projects, as well as their expectations and view of challenges for the future projects.
