Japanese Prime Minister (PM) Fumio Kishida agreed on Sunday with South Korean President Yoon Seok-yul to continue joint work to strengthen bilateral relations between Tokyo and Seoul.
During their meeting on the sidelines of the Group of 20 summit in New Delhi, Kishida also told Yoon that Tokyo has hopes for Seoul this year as the chair of trilateral talks, including China, according to the Japanese government.
Last month, Kishida and Yoon met, on the sidelines of a trilateral summit with US President Joe Biden near Washington.
According to the Japanese government, the Japanese and South Korean leaders held six bilateral talks over several months.
The summit between Kishida and Yoon took place amid speculation that senior diplomats from Japan, South Korea and China are planning talks in Seoul, possibly on September 25.
