The Japanese Ambassador to Egypt, Fumio Iwai, participated in Eid al-Adha celebrations by adopting traditional Egyptian holiday customs, a gesture that has been widely praised across social media.
In a video shared by the official Facebook account of the Japanese Embassy in Egypt, Ambassador Iwai was seen enjoying a traditional morning cup of tea while reading a newspaper.
The scene was set to the backdrop of "Laylat al-Eid" (The Night of Eid) by the legendary Egyptian singer Umm Kulthum, a song deeply woven into the fabric of holiday traditions in Egypt.
"Amidst an authentic Egyptian atmosphere, with tea in the morning, beautiful weather, and the newspaper, the Japanese Ambassador congratulates the great Egyptian people on the occasion of Eid al-Adha," the embassy wrote.
The post concluded with extending holiday wishes, saying, "Happy Eid to you and all your loved ones, and may you always be gathered together in goodness and joy!"
Ambassador Iwai has become well-known for his active engagement with Egyptian culture.
He frequently shares videos of himself enjoying local culinary staples, such as koshary and mulukhiyah, and regularly communicates with the public in classical Arabic.
This latest cultural immersion has further cemented his popularity, with local social media users praising his respect and affection for Egyptian heritage.
