Japan decided to ease COVID-19 restrictions in nine regions amid the upcoming Olympic Games, media agencies reported on Thursday.
However, Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga announced that quasi-emergency restrictions will be kept in other seven regions including Tokyo.
Moreover, Suga urged the Japanese to support the Olympics by watching the games from home.
He described: “It’s important to hold safe and secure Tokyo Games, curb the spread of infections during the period and prevent the spread of infections after the Games."
The Prime Minister added: “I would like to ask everyone to support the athletes at home, such as by watching television."
Until now, the government didn't announce the medical protocols of protection that would be followed during the Olympic Games. But, various medical experts warned of a new spread of the virus in the state.
