Oka Hiroshi, Ambassador of Japan to Egypt and Mohamed Hanno, Chairman of Alexandria Business Association (ABA), witnessed the inauguration of the Project for Supporting Industrial Training in Gheit El Enab, Alexandria.
It was attended by General Mohamed Taher El-Sherif, Alexandria Governor, and Arabi Abuzeid, Under Secretary of the Ministry of Education and Technical Education Alexandria Directorate.
This project was executed by ABA, using Japan’s grassroot grants of US$75,246.
This is the fourth collaboration between the Embassy of Japan and ABA, following the projects for providing desks and chairs to schools in Alexandria executed in 2000, 2002 and 2007.
The project contributes to local industrial development as well as enhances the job skills of 240 young people by facilitating not only welding and garment training but also training to incorporate the Japanese remarkable business philosophy of KAIZEN, which emphasizes improvements in productivity, effectiveness, safety and waste reduction in the production process.
During the ceremony, ABA Chairman Hannoalong with other speakers expressed their sincere appreciation for Japan’s assistance to support local industrial development in Alexandria.
Oka noted the importance of KAIZEN in the sense that nurtures people, fosters teamwork and achieves maximum results as a team, which is also applicable to TOKKATSU, Japanese-style special activities that Egypt aims to expand the introduction of in primary school education in cooperation with Japan.
This project comes within the framework of the Japanese aid grant program “Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects,” which provides direct financial support to non-profitable organizations including NGOs in various fields such as education, health, inclusion of persons with disabilities, vocational training, and empowerment of women, environment and others. Japan has extended about US$10 million in Egypt since 1994, supporting 174 projects.
