Japan Records 1st COVID-19 Case at Athletes' Village

Japan announced recording the first COVID-19 case at the Athelets' Village in Tokyo, media agencies reported on Saturday.

The Spokesperson of Tokyo Olympics Masa Takaya said that a visitor from a foreign country. His nationality wasn't announced for privacy.

Takaya highlighted that the infected person was transported from the village to a hotel.

She added: “I understand that there are still many worrying factors. Organizers must try to make sure that people will understand that these games are safe and secure."

The Tokyo Olympic Games opening ceremony will take place next Friday, July 27, with a limited attendance due to the outbreak of COVID-19.

Therefore, various media agencies reported on Thursday that the organizers of the event are planning to reduce the allowed number of guests for the opening ceremony to be less than 10, 000 persons.

The selected guests will be only VIP guests, and organizers, and representatives of the International Olympic Committee, and international guests.
