Japan has approved its first visa fee increase in nearly five decades, raising charges for foreign travelers as part of a government effort to reflect higher administrative costs.
Under the new rules, a single-entry visa fee will rise from 3,000 yen to 15,000 yen, while a multiple-entry visa will increase from 6,000 yen to 30,000 yen.
The revised fees, approved by the Japanese Cabinet, will apply to visa applications submitted from July 1 onward, marking the first adjustment since 1978.
Toshimitsu Motegi said the move reflects rising prices but is not expected to have an immediate impact on inbound tourism to Japan.
