On Tuesday, November 18, 2025, His Excellency Mr. IWAI Fumio, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to the Arab Republic of Egypt, and Mr. Mahmoud Fouad, CEO at Shefaa Al Orman Organization and Deputy General Manager at Al Orman Association, signed a grant contract under the framework of Japan’s Grant Assistance for Grass-Roots Human Security Projects (“KUSANONE” project).
The grant, amounting to USD 40,000, will be extended by the Embassy of Japan to improve the medical service quality in Upper Egypt. This funding will allow Shefaa Al Orman Hospital to acquire an MRI-compatible anesthesia machine, enabling pediatric patients to undergo MRI examinations more efficiently and accurately.
During the signing ceremony, Ambassador Iwai expressed his pleasure at the first cooperation with Shefaa Al Orman Foundation and his hope that the project will be successfully completed to enhance the healthcare services in Upper Egypt.
Mrs. Suzan Mohamed Moheb, Institutional Partnerships Director at Al Orman Association and Shefaa Al Orman Organization, conveyed her sincere appreciation for Japan’s “KUSANONE” project and reaffirmed the association’s strong commitment to its successful implementation.
She emphasized the importance of Shefaa Al Orman Hospital in serving Upper Egypt and noted that this project will greatly assist the hospital in continuing to provide free medical services.
She also expressed the dedication of the association to make this project the first of other successful projects between the association and the Embassy of Japan, and that we will contribute together to building a better future for Egypt.
The “KUSANONE” project is an important part of Japan’s development cooperation efforts, providing targeted financial support to non-profit organizations, including NGOs, to address local community needs. Since its inception in 1994, Japan has contributed over USD 11 million to fund 182 projects in Egypt, in collaboration with 131 NGOs.
These projects span key sectors such as education, healthcare, water and sanitation, vocational training, women’s empowerment, and support for individuals with special needs.
