On Monday, February 6, 2023, OKA Hiroshi, Ambassador of Japan to Egypt, and Dr. Hossam Badrawi, Chairman of Takatof Association for Development, signed a grant contract for Japanese Grant Assistance for Grass-Roots Human Security Projects. Nevine El-Kabbag, Minister of Social Solidarity, witnessed the signing.
The grant assistance amounting to US$74,274 is extended by the Embassy of Japan to Takatof Association for Development for the purpose of constructing Preschool Education in Ezbet El Haggana, Cairo.
The project will establish three new kindergarten classes as well as upgrade the physical kindergarten separate section facility.
This is the fourth collaboration between the Embassy of Japan and Takatof Association for Development in the field of education, after the school projects in Beni Suef in 2015, Giza in 2017 and 2019.
The schools supported in 2015 and 2017 received quality certificates from the National Authority for Education Quality Assurance and Accreditation.
At the signing ceremony, Minister El-Kabbag appreciated cooperation from the Embassy of Japan and Takatof Association for Development as the support is in line with Egyptian government policy.
She also expressed that the ministry of social solidarity is committed to early childhood development, as it is one of the important factors of education sector.
Ambassador Oka highlighted that the Embassy of Japan is keen to enhance contribution to the human security of Egyptian people in partnership with the Egyptian civil society, not limited to the education sector, but in a wide range of sectors, such as health, water and sanitation, and women empowerment.
Dr. Hossam Badrawi also expressed that providing a safe educational environment, active learning opportunities and quality educators are the keys to attain such quality education in Egypt.
He acknowledged that this support in the field of early childhood education will significantly contribute to developing human resources that create the nation’s future.
This project comes within the framework of the Japanese grant program “Grant Assistance for Grass-Roots Human Security Projects,” which provides direct financial support to non-profit organizations including NGOs in various fields such as education, health, inclusion of persons with disabilities, vocational training, and empowerment of women, environment and others.
Japan has extended approximately US$10 million in Egypt since 1994, supporting 174 projects and hope to receive many application for new projects.
