Diplomatic sources in Tokyo revealed on Thursday that Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida is considering a visit to South Korea on March 20th to engage in discussions with President Yoon Suk Yeol.
This potential visit is part of the reciprocal engagements between the leaders of the two nations.
According to exclusive statements from Kyodo News Agency, this diplomatic move comes amidst improving bilateral relations.
The sources suggested that Kishida and Yoon might jointly attend the opening baseball game in South Korea on the same day, featuring the match between the Los Angeles Dodgers, the team to which star player Shohei Ohtani belongs, and the San Diego Padres.
If realized, this would mark Kishida's first visit to Seoul since May 2023, following President Yoon's proposal two months earlier for a resolution to a longstanding dispute between the two countries regarding wartime labor compensations—a matter that has significantly heightened tensions between Japan and South Korea.
