Japan announced a $2 million aid package on Wednesday to support recovery efforts in California following devastating wildfires that have claimed over 20 lives and caused widespread destruction.
The aid, to be delivered through the American Red Cross, will fund evacuation centers, provide food, and offer psychological support for those affected, according to Japan's Foreign Ministry.
"Japan will actively provide assistance for the relief of the victims and the earliest possible recovery of the affected areas," the ministry said.
Since January 7, wildfires have ravaged areas near Los Angeles, leaving at least 20 dead, 30 missing, and over 88,000 residents under evacuation orders.
Dry conditions and strong winds have fueled the infernos, with Pacific Palisades and Altadena among the hardest-hit areas, where over 12,000 buildings have been damaged, and 150 square kilometers burned.
