Japan has evacuated 281 of its citizens from several Middle Eastern countries as regional tensions escalate following military strikes involving Iran.
The evacuation was confirmed in a statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, according to the Kyodo News.
A flight carrying 281 Japanese nationals departed from Riyadh and arrived at Narita International Airport near Tokyo in recent hours.
The evacuees had been stranded in several Gulf countries including Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain and Saudi Arabia.
The ministry added that 107 Japanese nationals were also evacuated earlier from Oman to Japan on March 8.
The evacuations come amid escalating military tensions in the Middle East following strikes launched by the United States and Israel against Iran in late February.
Iran has responded with missile and drone attacks targeting Israel as well as what it describes as US interests in several regional countries, including Gulf states, Jordan and Iraq.
The attacks have caused casualties and damage to civilian infrastructure, drawing condemnation from several Arab governments that have called for an immediate end to the strikes.
