Japan announced Tuesday that a Japanese citizen detained in Iran since January 20 has been released on bail.
Minoru Kihara, Japan’s Chief Cabinet Secretary, confirmed in an official statement that the release occurred on April 6 local time. He added that the individual’s health is stable and there are no immediate concerns.
The Japanese ambassador in Tehran personally met the released citizen to verify his well-being, though the government has withheld details regarding his identity or the circumstances of his detention to protect his privacy.
Tokyo affirmed that it will continue diplomatic efforts to ensure the citizen’s full freedom of movement.
Earlier reports indicated the detained individual was the director of NHK Tehran bureau. He was reportedly held in a facility known for detaining political prisoners.
The Japanese government has refrained from disclosing additional information about the case but has consistently emphasized the importance of securing the safety and rights of its citizens abroad.
