Japanese media reported today, Saturday, that the Japanese Ministry of Defense is working on developing multiple long-range missiles.
According to the Japanese news agency "Kyodo", quoting an informed source, Tokyo is looking forward to deploying a missile with a range of 2,000 km by the early 2030s.
The source added, "The Japanese army is working on developing a hypersonic missile with a range of 3,000 km that can reach anywhere in North Korea and some parts of China by 2035."
Japan announced earlier this month a record military budget of $51.4 billion.
This comes after it approved a new defense policy aimed at what it described as countering Chinese military influence, describing Beijing as an "unprecedented strategic challenge" to its security.
The Japanese cabinet, headed by Fumio Kishida, approved the next fiscal year's budget, the largest in the country's history, with spending levels of $863 billion, driven by record military spending.
