Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi announced that at least 30 people were injured in the powerful 7.5 magnitude earthquake that struck off the coast of Aomori Prefecture.
Channel News Asia reported on Tuesday that the Aomori coastal earthquake damaged a number of roads and caused power outages for thousands of citizens amid low temperatures that reached freezing in some areas.
For its part, the emergency services reported that about 28,000 people were evacuated from the at-risk areas after the earthquake caused a tsunami, with the waves reaching a height of 70 cm.
