The Ivorian Football Federation (FIF) has revealed that new Covid-19 cases were found in the national team’s squad as they prepare for the 2021 AFCON.

The 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon is scheduled to run from the 9 January to the 6 February of 2022.

Ivory Coast head coach Patrice Beaumelle already announced his 28-man participating squad, as they prepare to compete for Group E supremacy against Equatorial Guinea, Sierra Leone and Algeria.

The Elephants have a star-studded squad led by Wilfried Zaha, Eric Bailly, Franck Kessié, and Nicolas Pépé. However, they have already been handed a tough blow as Wolves defender Willy Bolly suffered an ankle injury.

They will now have to deal with a new crisis, as several coronavirus cases were discovered within the squad. Yet, the FIF didn’t specify which players tested positive or how many players.
