Italy’s President Sergio Mattarella’s office announced that Mattarella has tested positive for "Covid-19" and is experiencing few symptoms, including mild fever, and he is continuing to perform his duties in self-isolation.

And the office added, in a statement, that Mattarella, 81, had cancelled all his appointments that were scheduled in the coming days, but he would continue his other tasks of isolation at his residence in the Quirinale Palace in the capital, Rome.

The Italian president had previously been vaccinated against the coronavirus at the Spallanzani Institute in Rome.

On Wednesday, he attended the opening night of the new season at the La Scala Opera House in Milan, along with Prime Minister Georgia Meloni and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.
