The visit of Italy’s Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni to Astana will not take place due to the floods in the Italian region of Emilia-Romagna, the press office of the Kazakh president reported.

“For this reason, the previously announced working visit of the head of the Italian government to Astana will not take place. The Italian side asked for a telephone conversation between the president and George Meloni,” the statement said.

It is noteworthy that Meloni's visit to Astana was scheduled for May 22. However, the prime minister announced Saturday that she will leave the G7 summit in Hiroshima ahead of schedule and return to her homeland to take part in solving problems related to the state of emergency in the Emilia-Romagna region due to torrential rains and floods.

The state of emergency appeared in Emilia-Romagna on Tuesday, when prolonged torrential rains began to fall in this region.

In three days, some areas there experienced half-year precipitation rates. As a result, 23 rivers overflowed, and floods submerged many lands and residential centers.
