New Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has said she was ready to closely work with NATO.
"Ready to work with NATO, that is more than a military alliance: a bulwark of common values we’ll never stop standing for," Meloni said on Twitter in a reply to NATO General Secretary Jens Stoltenberg.
Meloni was responding to several congratulations on becoming prime minister.
Along the lines of cooperation with NATO, she also replied to US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken that "USA and all our NATO partners can count on us to support at our best the brave people of Ukraine and to enforce our strategic partnership."
Russian Ambassador to Italy Sergey Razov earlier told TASS that he did not expect Italy to change course dramatically with the formation of a new government.
So far, he said, there are indications that the policy of support for Kyiv and compliance with the sanctions imposed on Russia will continue.
